السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

As a friendly reminder, please make sure your boys are dropped off by 9:55 to attend the assembly and to recite the morning Adhkār.
Please continue to encourage them to use the Ma'thurāt app to recite the morning Adhkār on their way to school. The more they practice, the easier it will be to recite (and eventually memorize).
Insha'Allah, we are about 3 months away from the start of the blessed month of Ramadhān. We discussed what we associate with Ramadhān, and how the thing that we should associate with Ramadhān is the Qur'an, and that Ramadhān is essentially a month-long celebration of the Qur'an.
Obviously, a big part of Ramadhān is fasting. We spoke about the importance of fasting, some of the rules, and most importantly, the true purpose of fasting: to gain Taqwa. With that, we looked for verses from the Qur'an that gave us a description of the attributes of people who have Taqwa.
It is Oscar season, and tonight many people who work in the film industry will be hoping to receive the prestigious award from The Academy. Those who win will be boasting with joy and those who will lose will feel sorrow/remorse. We drew a parallel to the Day of Judgement, and how there will be a time where every person will receive their book of deeds. Some people will receive their book in their right hand, and other will receive it in their left hand. Those who receive their book in their right hand will be so happy because their ultimate destination will be Paradise insha'Allah (May Allah SWT make us among them). In contrast, those who receive their book in their left hand will be so sad because their ultimate destination will be Hellfire (May Allah SWT save us from that).
We tied that back in with the idea of Taqwa, or God-consciousness, and continued our discussion on practical examples of Taqwa by looking at Verse 4 of Surat Al-Baqarah, and how we can incorporate those descriptions in our lives.
We will insha'Allah continue looking at practical ways to increase our Taqwa using these descriptions to make the most out of Ramadhān this year.

As a friendly reminder, please make sure your boys are dropped off by 9:55 to attend the assembly and to recite the morning Adhkār.
We spent a bit of time downloading a Ma'thurāt app on their devices, and reciting them together. Please encourage them to go through the Adhkār every morning on their way to school.
We spoke about Valentine's Day, and the difference between love and lust, citing examples from the life of Prophet Muhammad and his companions. We had a discussion about the permissibility of participating in Valentine's Day, and how, when the time comes when they have families of their own, they shouldn't limit themselves to a single day of the year to go above and beyond to show how much they care about any specific person. (Such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, etc.)

Assalaamu Alaykum!

This week in Sunday School, we read Surat Al-Ma'aarij. After reading the Surah verse by verse, we discussed Sabab An-Nuzool (Reasons for Revelation), the Understood Meaning, and Learned Lessons from the Surah.
The Surah was broken into 3 different sections, based on the themes; Verses 1-18: Warning to the Disbelievers, Verses 19-35: Mankind's Weaknesses and Strengths, and Verses 36-44: The Fate of Those Who Disbelieve.
We also discussed a Hadeeth about Kibr, or arrogance, and tied that in with the story of Iblees and Prophet Adam.
